WITHAM BOWLS CLUB maintains a membership comprising approximately 40 ladies and 60 gents who enjoy the facilities of our Club featuring a first class outdoor green, with a well appointed Clubhouse and changing rooms.
Our Club encourages new members whether experienced bowlers or not. We do, however, expect that members new to the game should undergo a beginners induction and coaching course which is provided by our qualified coaches. After satisfactory completion those new members can participate in any of the Club's bowling activities, including:-
Club Nights These are normally held on most Monday and Friday evenings, and gives members the opportunity of experienced and novice players playing together in informal games and provides a wonderful opportunity to improve your bowling skills. During the winter months [October - March] the club house is open [including the bar] on Friday nights for social gathering where various activities are available including carpet bowls, darts, poker (& other card games), jigsaw puzzles plus more.
'Roll Ups' This is an opportunity for informal games to be played, and teams are made up from those members turning up
Club Drives (inc President v Captains, Ladies v Gents) Similarly to Club Nights (see above), but refer to Handbook or Fixture List on this Website for dates and start times
Friendly Inter-Club Matches These matches, both home and away, give members an opportunity to play in semi-competitive matches. Normally these are at weekend-ends, and are, generally followed by tea & biscuits, meals or 'formal meals'
Club Competitions There are annually a number of internal Club competitions to enter, some rounds played on fixed dates Ladies, Gents and Mixed Leagues, and various Inter-Club Trophy Matches ALL members are encouraged to participate in these matches - every one has the potential to win and get their name on the honours board
Club Tuesday AM Pairs (Mixed) League These league matches are played throughout the Season on Tuesday mornings, with 8 teams comprising up to 5 players.
Winter Months Indoor Bowls Friendly Matches Several matches are arranged for the Winter Months at local Indoor Clubs ----------- Other "Non Bowls" Social events These include Coffee Mornings, Annual Dinner, 200 Club, Quiz Nights, Wine tasting, Horse-Race Evenings, Coach-Outings, etc
